Welcome and thank you for your interest in me!
My name is Mali Munch Hawthorne and I am the main doula of Belly and Bunting.
I have been a doula for over ten years and a postpartum doula for about twelve years now. I did the bulk of my early training at Seattle Midwifery School (now The Simkin Center at Bastyr). I was once certified through two different organizations, but let my certifications lapse because they didn’t offer much to me other than yearly fees. My education has been ongoing, but I do not plan on re-certifying.
I serve the Greater Seattle area in a radius of about 100miles/2hours drive. My goal is to help families, whatever shape they take, to make their “birth dreams” come true. Along with my doula skills, I also teach private childbirth, newborn care and baby-wearing classes and offer lactation counseling.
I have worked with many low income, relinquishing and non-supported women and charge on a sliding scale because of this. My scale is not based on your income, but on what you can comfortably pay in the range. I provide the same care package regardless of what you pay. I feel that people should have quality care no matter what their financial situation is.
I have particular experience with teen moms, single parents, adoption, relinquishing mothers, single parents, same-sex couples, transgendered parents, expected stillbirth and women who want a doula during abortion. I attend scheduled ceasarean births. I will go to most hospitals, any birth center and any home birth.
Two of my great passions are home births and VBACs. So far my clients have a 100% VBAC/HBAC success rate!
As someone who has personally experienced fertility problems and the need for fertility treatments, I have a unique perspective on these births.
